Respected activists of People for Ethical Treatment to Animals,

What's the point in protesting against Kentucky Fried Chicken's foray into Chennai? Where were you when Chennai witnessed the opening of Chic King, Prime Roaster, Marrybrown, the Ponnusamys, Anjappars and Arasappars? For your information, Anjappar has got a special dish called Rabbit-65 in its menu. Before you demand the exit of KFC, make sure the above mentioned restaurants are closed.

You are right completely.Nothing great, new and exciting comes up our Chennai smoothly like in Bangalore without someone making it hew and cry about it.Dont we all want this city to grow and become a global metro,a great place to live and work to global standards.Anyone who does'nt isnt a true Chenniate of the 21st century. Its many negative elements that has stopped Chennai to be the best global city in India.Instead Delhi,Mumbai and Bangalore have been moving far ahead leaving us depressed about our city and its inablity to be better those cites as far as a global lifestyle goes.I hope every one of Chennaiate will fight these elements and have a passion to spread the word and someway help in making this city a great cosmopolitan and global metro of world class standards in all sectors esp retail and lifestyle.DOWN PETA,GO AWAY PETA.We love KFC.Whats more this is only the second KFC in Chennai. There are as many as 5 in Hyderabad and many in Bangalore.Chennai was not given top priority and its sad as in late in coming.I also feel really sad that Mcdonalds is still not in Chennai inspite of already having 108 restaurants in india and as many as 4 in Bangalore and 3 in Hyderabad. Why are we always laaaast.I wish so much global retailers will choose Chennai first.I guess the peoples lifestyle and perception should change and become modern and free from insecurties and reminents of the stuck up past and we must all stand tall in the world and embrass all thats best from the west and east and then we l be a place where all global retailers will target first in India.

    Anonymous 2,
Mumbai and Bangalore have attracted big names but at the same time eroded their cultural values.A lot has been hyped about these two cities and look at the state of these two!As long as Chennai doesnt invite too much media hype it'll be safe.Let's accept the city for what it is.

The attitude of people especially middle and lower strata in Chennai must change. They must learn to live better, work more efficiently and have a broad mindidness in their behaviour. They must by this even dress and carry themselves in a modern, ethical, polished and liberated manner respectful in their beaviour towards one another.Their minds must think global even if they chose to not forgo their local tastes and preferences.People must learn the importance of society they live in and cleanliness as the most important. The city needs more creativity whether its in designing its new building or formulatings rules and laws to make it a liberal and free state where anyone from anywhere in the world coming can still feel safe and full life.Noone should stop the city from developing whether its buidling better roads, public transport systems like the Chennai metro, bigger parks, more variety in restaurants, cafes, hotels, better planned and executed malls and multiplexes and well planned civic amenties esp toilets and basic facilities in our beaches and public places which will enable a average hardworking 21st century Chenniate to live a better lifestyle.Chennai must have a vision for itself and think global everythen especially in retail, leisure and its lifestyle enabling industries and civic amenities for the people.A city is great or becomes a great city only because of the people in the city who made it that way and made it possible.Loook at New York as an example. It became the greatest city on earth because the people made it that way in the 20th century with their never ending passion and vision to build something great.Chennai must embrase the western culture yet never loose its culture and roots of togetherness and values. Its up to every Chennaite alive today to make it their primary and most important a duty to spread the message and do his/her best which will def collectively pursued with deepest passion make it one of the greatest cities of this 21st century.Chennai aim must be to become one of Asia's and the even the one of the world's best and most vibrant cities of the 21st century and must in that endevour become definietly the best and number one city in India.

    WHAT CHENNAI NEED NOW:

MCDONALDS,TGIF,RUBY TUESDAY,PAPA JOHNS,TO GIVE THE CITY MORE EXCITING,VIBRANT RESTAURANT AND DINING EXPERIENCE.

ATLEAST A FEW BIG MODERN MALLS LIKE FORUM IN BANGALORE OR INORBIT IN MUMBAI ARE NEEDED IN THIS HUGE CITY.

BETTER MODERN FACILITIES AND BETTER DESIGNED AMMENTIES LIKE WELL PLANNED FOOD COURTS AND ENTERTAINMENT HUTS ON ITS MAIN BEACH FRONTS LIKE IN THE MARINA AND ELLIOTS BEACH.

A COMPLETED IT EXPRESSWAY TILL MAHABALIPURAM WHICH SHOULD BE A SHOWPIECE FOR CHENNAI.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT LIKE CHENNAI METRO RAIL IS A MUST TO MEET THE LONG TERM TRAFFIC REQUIREMENT OF THE CITY

PUBLIC TOILETS ARE A MUST AND SHOULD BE BUILT AND MAINTAINED ON EVERY MAIN ROAD.

A COUPLE OF LARGE WELL PLANNED PARKS LIKE CENTRAL PARK IN THE HEART OF THE CITY TO HELP THE CITY BREATHE FROM ALL THE POLLUTION AND HEAT.THEY ARE LIKE THE LUNGS OF THE CITY.TODAY ITS CHOCKING WITH POLLUTION DUE TO THE HEAVY RISE IN CARS AND BIKES.

LIQUER OR AT THE LEAST BEER AND WINE SHOULD BE DEFINIETLY ALLOWED TO BE SERVED IN GOOD QUALITY STAND ALONE RESTAURANTS AND CAFES PROVIDED THEY MEET A SET OF STRINGENT AND WELL LAID OUT CLAUSES.IN ALL METROS IN INDIA LIQUER IS AVAILABE IN STAND ALONE RESTAURANTS.ITS ONLY IN CHENNAI THERE IS THIS INSANE UNEXPLAINABLE RESTRICTION EVEN IN THIS DAY AND AGE IN 2007.THIS CANNOT HOLD FOR TOO LONG FOR SURE WHAT WITH THE CITY ATTRACTING SOO MANY VISITORS AND NRI'S INVESTMENTS AND THE FACE OF THE CITY CHANGING TO BECOME GLOBAL.

BAR AND LOUNGE TIMING IN HOTELS MUST BE RELAXED AND EXTENTED TO ATLEAST MIN 12:30 AM.THE 11OR 11:30 PM DEADLINE IS MOST CONSERVATIVE IN THIS AGE AND RESTRICTIVE TO THE CITY'S FUTURE ACCEPTANCE AND OUTLOOK FROM ALL THE MAJOR COMPANIES COMING IN TO SET UP SHOP AND ENJOY A VIBRANT CORPORATE AND PERSONAL LIFESTYLE.

PRICE CAPS ON MULTIPLEXES MUST BE REMOVED. AS THERE ARE GUIDLINES TO BE MEET FOR THE 120 CLASS.THERE MUST BE A BROADER SET OF GUIDELINES TO BE MEET FOR SAY RS 150 OR 180 CLASS AND FOR RS 300 GOLD CLASS MOST OF ALL.ALL METROS IN INDIA HAVE GOLD CLASS CINEMAS EXCEPT CHENNAI.THERE CAN SURELY BE A SET OF GUIDLINES TOO FOR OTHER LOWER CLASSES LIKE 50,85 ETC.A SEPERATE MULTIPLEX POLICY IS REQUIRED TO BE FORMULATED FOR TAMIL NADU STATE.IT MUST ENCOURAGE THE MULTIPLEX INDUSTRY AND EXCEPT FROM PAYING ENTERTAINMENT TAX FOR ATLEAST 3 YEARS.MULTIPLEXES ARE THE 21ST CENTURY CINEMAS AND THE STATE MUST FORMULATE A SEPERATE MULTIPLEX POLICY TO ENCOURAGE CINEMAS OF ALL CLASSES IN CHENNAI AND TAMIL NADU.

I DO HOPE TO SEE MY CHENNAI GROW RAPIDLY AND BECOME NUMBER ONE THE BEST MOST DEVELOPED,MODERN,MOST VIBRANT CITY IN INDIA.COME ON ALL YOU CHENNIATES LETS GET TIS MESSAGE FORWARD AND MOVE THIS CITY AHEAD TO GREAT HEIGHTS AND RIGHTFULLY GET A CITY WE DESERVE AND A CITY WE ARE PROUD TO LIVE IN AND SHOW TO THE REST INDIA AND THE WHOLE THE WORLD WHAT CAN BE DONE.

    Same answer to both Anonymouses:

You should realise that Chennai was carved out of villages and this is probably the reason for narrow roads even in key localities. In such a scenario, opening the restaurants you mentioned may lead to enhanced dining experience, alright, but it'll be nightmarish for the motorists who'll have to cope with the excess traffic created due to aforementioned restaurants'inability to provide parking space.

A beach has to be a beach. It shouldnt turn into a commercial complex.

The IT expressway work is still in progress.

The Metro is in the planning stage and will be out soon.

    Booze--no comments.

Bars open till midnight--the corporates can enjoy a vibrant lifestyle provided they dont threaten other motorists in the middle of the night with their drunken driving

Your recommendations may be based on similar aspects available in some foreign city. They may be applicable there, but not to Chennai.

WHEN THERE IS A NEGATIVE SPIRIT TO CHENNAI DEVELOPING ON ALL FRONTS EVEN WITHIN AMONG THE PEOPLE ITSELF LIKE YOURSELF HOW WILL THE CITY EVER MOVE FORWARD TO BECOMING A GLOBAL METROPOLIS.NO WONDER IT FINDS IT HARD TO MOVE FORWARD WITH SO MANY NEGATIVE ELEMENTS.IT WILL HOWEVER I BELIEVE BREAK THROUGH IT ALL AS ITS DESTINED FOR GREAT THINGS TO COME.

OBVIOUSLY I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANY RESTAURANT I MENTIONED WITHOUT THE RESTAURANT PROVIDING SUFFICIENT PARKING ACCESS TO ITS PATRONS.THAT GOES WITHOUT SAYING.

LIQUOR(OR AT THE VERY LEAST BEER AND WINE) HAS TO BE GIVEN ACCESS AND PERMITTED TO INCLUDED IN STAND ALONE RESTAURANTS MENUS AND CAFES PROVIDED THEY PASS A SET OF CLAUSES.THIS IS INEVITABLE AND IS BEING WORKED OUT.ITS THERE IN ALL METROS IN INDIA ITSELF LEAVE ALONE ANY GLOBAL METRO AND ITS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME WHEN CHENNAI WILL SEE THIS CAUSE THE CITY IS BECOMING A GLOBAL CITY WHETHER PEOPLE LIKE YOU PUT IT DOWN OR NOT.

ONLY ONE SECTION OF THE BEACH AND BY THAT I MEAN BY THE BEACH FRONT OR THE ROAD ADJOING IT ATTOTTED TO WORLD CLASS SERVICES TO THE PEOPLE LIKE INTERNATIONAL A GRADE RESTAURANTS,CAFES,PARKS AND ENTERTAINMENT ZONES.BESANT NAGAR ELLIOTS BEACH HAS SOO MUCH POTENTIAL IT HAS NOT REALISED FULLY YET.
SO DOES MARINA.IT IS SOO HUGE.IT HAS HAD NO SINGLE DEVELOPMENT OF GREAT CIVIC WORKS.ONE SMALL SECTION CAN BE ALLOTED MAKING IT A BEACH FRONT HOT SPOT FOR ACTIVITES AND SHOWS.THIS WOULD EVEN SUCH A FILLIP FOR TOURISM AND FOR THE PEOPLE OF CHENNAI THAN HOW DESOLATE IT STANDS TODAY WITH NO COLOR TO LIFE AND DEVOID OF MEETING ANY OF ITS POTENTIAL.THIS I BELIVE WILL HAPPEN TOO.ITS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME.

HOTEL BAR TIMING HAS TO BE EXTENTED AND THIS IS AN EVENTUALITY TOO.TS HAS TO BE FOLLOWED UP WITH BETTER POLICE ENFORCEMENT OF DRINKING AND DRIVING OFFENCES.12:30 AM IS THE BARE MINIMIUM IN THE TIME WE LIVE IN 2007.I BELIVE IT SHOULD BE 1 AM FOR BARS LOUNGES AND 3.AM FOR NIGHT CLUBS.THIS IS ALSO GOING TO HAPPEN AND IS INEVITABLE.IT WILL HAPPEN AND SOON JUDGING BY THE KIND OF INVESTEMENTS AND AIR TRAFFIC THE CITY IS DRAWING AND ITS GROWING WITH EACH PASSING DAY.

PLS STOP BEING NEGATIVE TO HOW FAR THE CITY CAN PROGRESS.STOP GIVING EXCUSES SAYING THIS IS HOW CHENNAI IS. WELL THIS IS HOW CHENNAI HAS BEEN OR WAS.DEAD ALL THESE YEARS FROM THE 20TH CENTURY AND DEAD TO THE WORLD.TODAY ITS NO MORE THAT WAY.ITS HAS BEEEN THE PAST AND NO LONGER ITS UP TO 21ST CENTURY VISIONERS AND PASSIONTE CITIZENS TO BUILD THE CITY THIS CENTURY INTO A WORLD BEATER AND A GLOBALLY VIBRANT CITY TO LIVE AND WORK.DONT YOU WANT CHENNAI TO BE A WORLD BEATER IN EVERY FIELD AND BECOME A GLOBALLY VIBRANT AND A 21ST CENTURY DESTINATION.IF YOURE ANSWER IS NOO YOU ARE NOT A TRUE CHENNIATE.IT HAS TO AND WILL BECOME A WORLD BEATER.I BELIEVE IN IT NO MATTER HOW LONG IT TAKES.

My views are based on personal experiences.

How can you expect me to be highly optimistic about my city when you are highly pessimistic about revealing your name and preferring to comment anonymously?
