IT CANT GET WORSE THAN THIS
Friday, February 24, 2006
The Bengal Tiger has been excluded yet again from the squad for the forthcoming test-series against England. This act seems like Kiran More's peculiar strategy to keep him forever away from the team.

It must not be forgotten that it was he who groomed the youngsters in the team. Not many may agree with me.Also Rahul Dravid could not have become the captain he is,now,if he had not played under Ganguly. Those who approve his exclusion must remember that every sportsman is a human and that every human has ups and downs.
"Manushan-naa prachanai irukka thaan seyyum.
Prachanai illaathavan manushanae illa." (quoted by Aadhi)

And Ganguly too is a human(but Praveen thinks otherwise),unlike Laloo. The present treatment meted out to him by Kiran More is worse than Hari Sadu dismissing his employee.

Dada is now reduced to "Gaurav Gone"guly and a day will come when he returns as "Gaurav Gain"guly.

Meanwhile,if are there any Bengalis in Chennai, who are protesting against his exclusion, please let me know.I'll join your party.

SLIME OF INDIA
Wednesday, February 22, 2006
Click for a bigger better image

The online edition of "Times of India" has a menu item called "Cities" on the left pane.Surprisingly Chennai does not find a place there. There's absolutely no information pertaining to TamilNadu anywhere in the site. But,Thiruvananthapuram is very much there. Why this bias?Isn't Chennai a part of India too?

Shyam refers to TOI as "Slime of India" in most of his,or rather all of his, posts and the title aptly suits it now.

LEARNING EXPERIENCE

I'nfina------ l ly bac kfr om m y3- da y trip to ..?coimtore.

Err..The above phrase must read "I'm finally back from my 3-day trip to coimbatore."The typo errors resulted because I'm yet to recover from the overnight hangover that occurred because of the 10-hour long travel by booze err....bus.A lot of things happened during this trip but I'm not in a mood to write a long, monotonous, insipid post which carries details like where I went, what I bought, which girl smiled at me etc.

I accompanied 6 other people--John,Praveen,Dheepan,Gopal,Arun and Divya, belonging to the Manufacturing Engg dept. These people were successful in amassing a cash prize of Rs.20000 which came from paper-presentations and component designs.I couldnt win even a penny as I did not take part in most of the events and the reason I didnt take part was that I hadnt prepared for those events.I managed to come 3rd along with John and Praveen in the Interdisciplinary quiz, but there were no cash prizes for that either.

I caught up with a few of my old friends on Saturday.I was to meet only one guy initially, but later he took me to another guy's house where there were 3 others and all of us headed to yet another fellow's house where there were 5 other guys. And as quoted in the previous post,I did meet those damsels.

Now that I've specified the title as "Learning Experience",what exactly did I learn?

**Coimbatore hadnt changed much ever since I bid adieu to it in 2001.
**Water shortage is an abstruse concept there.
**Water does not flow from taps but gushes out.
**One never feels thirsty even if the sun's right on top of your head.
**Public transport in the city is operated by both public and private sectors.
**All private city buses and government mofussil buses are equipped with DVD players.
**There are damsels in coimbatore too.
**Girls in the city are very much outgoing. They make reticent guys feel at ease.
**The Students Union at PSG is a single body and there are no sects.
**Who said only MTC buses are menacing on roads?Cbe buses are killers!

I cant wait to witness the next best thing that happens in coimbatore.

NOTHING WRONG IN ADMIRING
"The news may not be good but the news readers are."--my comment to a special blogger's(whose name I wont be revealing for privacy reasons) post.

"But you must not forget that most news readers have school-going kids"---the special blogger's response.

My question is what's wrong in just admiring somebody. It has become habitual for guys to be regarded "cheap" or "pervert" if he admires a girl.I'm no exception to this and I too have been rated with such terms, not in the blogworld but in the real world. And the people who rated me are a few girls in college who feel that Krishnamachari Srikkanth is hot or that Kunal Kapoor is the best guy in the country.

A word of advice to those girls who rate guys--Think again. We dont rate you if you admire Madhavan,Hrithik or Sachin Tendulkar, who have got school-going kids. And you spend a whole day boozing when Hrithik Roshan or Krishnamachari Srikanth announces that he's got engaged.Stop this nonsense!

And a piece of gyan to guys who admire---there's nothing wrong in it.Almost everyone does that during the age range of 15 to 25 years. But stick to your limits. You'll be in big trouble if you cross the line.

P.S--"Girls" as mentioned here does not include that special blogger. And in case any of you need to know who that special blogger is,find out for yourself.A clue:she's not in my blogroll.

A DIFFERENT TAG
Tuesday, February 14, 2006
If you think you can,you can!

Impossible is a word found in the dictionary of fools---maaveeran napoleon.

Run,keep running after it and fall on it when it touches the boundary line---Salman Butt's theory of stopping boundaries.

With such cliched nonsensical quotes,I'm taking up suderman's tag.I'm adding the following to his list of responsibilities.

**Make it a point to stop just before the STOP line in a traffic signal.
**Stick to a speed of 50kmph.

This might seem like a Valentine's day resolution but i would rather regard it as Rang de Basanti resolution.Lose control!

THE NAME SELLS

TATA Motors has finally come out with its LCV(Light Carriage Vehicle),Ace.The company which had been specialising in the production of buses, trucks and cars so far has now forayed into the LCV segment too much to the displeasure of its competitors in Mahindra,Piaggio,Bajaj and Tempo. And the company seems to be gaining market share in this segment too.

This LCV is different from the others in that it runs with a smooth sound, contrary to the others which result in a "Why blood, same blood" situation.Other features include ergonomic seating, higher payload capacity and easy starting.I'm waiting for the day when this LCV assumes the form of a share-auto.This will only ensure a smoother and noise-free ride for share-auto travellers.

After buses, trucks, cars and LCVs TATA Motors is definitely riding high.It remains to be seen if it ventures into two-wheeler manufacturing.Meanwhile there are plans to unveil a low-cost car costing Rs.1 lakh.Way to go!

ARTUSAMAK ATTACK
Thursday, February 09, 2006
In case you can't figure out what the title means, just reverse the first word.My PC recently came under virus threat. But it wasnt the software which got attacked but the monitor.A team of termites began chewing away at my monitor.I tried driving them away with a torch but to no avail. It only produced ugly red marks and a few cracks on the glass.

Next I tried fire service.Succeeded in drving away the pests but the desktop got tarred in the process. Finally water-treatment.Used a colourful cleaning paste.Operation Success.

P.S:-I've got some Lollu Sabha spoofs.Everything from 7G Orambo colony to Budhan's Thirai Paarvai is available. If you want them contact me at the email id in my profile. You can also drop in a line, but to protect my privacy I'm not disclosing my number.Get it from curses.

ROAD ROMEO
Monday, February 06, 2006
Disclaimer:Long post!Be patient while reading.Dont become a patient after reading.

Menacing is a term that best describes the experience of driving on Chennai's roads. The same is true for any other indian city,be it metropolitan or "branded"(read Bengaluru).Commercial complexes open up in narrow streets(most of which are named as "royapettah, thiruvottiyur etc high road") and a guy staying in the street calls it shrinks."The width of the road has shrunked due to the opening up of shopping centres".As if it was a national highway once upon a time.

People moving into Madras from other parts of Tamilnadu generally shudder at the thought of driving a two-wheeler or a four-wheeler on Madras bitumen.I am no exception.Three years ago, when I got an ungeared two-wheeler,I stuck to driving in streets and bylanes and kept away from arterial roads. But with the passage of time I graduated to a professional rider and now I cut across the path of other vehicles. It is for this reason that one of my professors calls me "Road Romeo."It so happened that I tried cutting across the path of a Maruti car in saidapet.Out of desperation to beat the green signal,I overtook the car from the left forcing the driver to brake suddenly.Only later did I realise that the person at the wheel was none other than my professor.

Back to our topic.Where were we...yeah...driving in chennai.I say driving can turn into a thrilling experience in mount road or 100 ft road or poonamallee high road or anna nagar 2nd avenue or any other arterial road for that matter, provided you maintain a positive frame of mind while driving.

Two wheelers form a major chunk of the vehicle population in Madras with bikes outnumbering ungeared scooterettes. You are bound to come across on-road enemies if you are an impatient rider like me who does not like to brake quite often. The enemies you are likely to encounter are the following:

AUTO--It's notorious for its high fares.A trip from koyambedu to tiruvanmiyur costs 150 bucks while a trip from trichy to chennai costs only 136.It's notorious for another reason--unethical driving.Turn indicators never flash at turns,no hand-signalling either, sudden U turns and occupying bus-bays.To beat the auto,it's better to have a high-frequency horn fitted to your bike.Just keep honking and overtake him.(but beware of the Noise Pollution Control Board)

UNGEARED 2W--If you are looking for a bike race in the city, this is your best bet.For most ungeared two-wheelers are driven by girls. Most girls do not have a road-sense,as quoted by a famous blogger. The figure-on-wheels simply zips past you justifying another blogger's description of her Activa as "minnal"(lightning). If that is minnal, prove that you are puyal(wind). This doesnt mean you have to book a Bajaj Wind 125 and revamp its moribund sales.Just hit the throttle and catch up with her.If that is a risky proposition, then just leave it.She's likely to get stranded at the next signal where you can catch a glimpse of her face.

GEARED 2W--I consider them my comrades.A virtual race ensues when you see one of these speeding ahead of you.But when it comes to overtaking the figure-on-wheels,you seem to join hands with the other biker.Precisely speaking, you are least likely to lose your patience when you are in pursuit of a geared 2W.

CARS--My worst enemies.I detest the sight of them in narrow roads. Most roads in Madras had to be converted into one-ways because of these cars.If you are an impatient biker like me the frustration that emanates, when you see a car in front of you moving slower than a snail, will be evident in your face.Cars are difficult to manoeuvre in a city like this and I wonder what the fate of this city is going to be,given the number of automobile firms setting up shop here. The reason why I(or any other impatient rider, for that matter)detest the presence of cars is that while you are out riding your bike at night,a car coming in the opposite direction blinks its headlights at you as if to show how bright his headlight is compared to yours. To counter this, have a halogen lamp fitted to you bike. You can also attach a laser light to it.To overtake it,keep honking and go ahead.

BUSES--There's no other option. You are the one who must adapt to the direction the bus is taking.Which one is easier---manoeuvring a heavy vehicle or controlling a 2W?An information about which bus stops at which stop would come in handy. If there's a bus-stop a few yards in front and if you are tailing a bus,u can overtake it from the right side without second thought(unless you are out to see ur figure in the bus).Bus here refers to MTC.

In all, riding a bike is the best way to overcome traffic snarls in a city like Madras which has got better roads than the branded city. How else can you relish the experience of getting sandwiched between two buses or make your way amidst "minnals" to the forefront of a traffic signal?

TODAY
Saturday, February 04, 2006
The good--Finding a seat by the window in a Tambaram-bound bus, that is packed otherwise.

The bad--Reaching your destination only to find that your friend has not turned up,so stand and watch infotech firms' staff buses pass by.

Worse--Walking into a windmill-assembly plant, after several security formalities,to discover that your project co-ordinator is busy in a meeting and that he would be back only in the evening.

Better--Deciding to quit the place, but the security, doesnt allow you out until someone in the management signs the entry-pass.The receptionist lady's smile bowls you over.

Worst--Returning home in a rickety vestibule bus, sitting in the back compartment. The bus rocks up and down in an equally rickety road, throwing you up and down in your seat.In the end you land home with a swollen a**.

THE REAL ME
Wednesday, February 01, 2006
Who is the real me?What kind of a person am I?These two questions have been puzzling me to a greater extent than thermodynamics.I was forced to ask myself these questions after I read "Harvard Business Review on Effective Communication".It said that before an individual in an enterprise gets to know about it,he/she must know himself/herself first and that he/she has to do a self-analysis of his/her character.I did that, accordingly, only to find myself stumped by the two questions above. That's the truth.I havent yet discovered the real me.This probably explains why I've been changing my profile statements quite often. This is the fifth change where I had,but to confess. The last four were written based on what others' views about me.It may take ages before I discover the real me,but by then bangalore would be bengaluru and Kumaraswamy would be chief minister. For now I have varied opinions about myself.Call it the Deve Gowda Theory of Backtracking.

P.S--In case any of you know anything about me,rate me please.
